Unison Taking Urgent Legal Action Following Jeremy Clarkson Comments

The BBC was left with egg on its face last night as Jeremy Clarkson called for public sector workers to be shot in front of their families following yesterday’s strikes. Appearing on the channels family programme, The One Show, Clarkson made a swift apology after suggesting that millions of parents should be executed.

In a series of sweeping statements, the 51 year-old suggested that public sector workers should be reprimanded due to the fact they stood up for their rights – rich considering the ardent right-wing columnist earns in a day what many teachers take home every month.

The veteran television presenter whose show is broadcast on BBC Two, also remarkably complained about being held up due to deaths at train stations.

Jon Trickett, Labour’s shadow minister for the Cabinet Office, said “Clarkson should apologise. And the Prime Minister should make clear he disassociates himself from the distasteful remarks uttered by one of his friends.”

David Cameron has today come out and branded Jeremy Clarkson as ‘silly’.

The public broadcaster issued a swift on-air apology, admitting that he often steps over the mark and goes on such bigoted rants due to their supposed “comic” value.

The BBC has also revealed that it has received complaints about the comments but could not provide exact numbers.

Clarkson’s exact words were that “I would have them all shot”.

“I would take them outside and execute them in front of their families.

“I mean how dare they go on strike when they have these gilt-edged pensions that are going to be guaranteed, while the rest of us have to work for a living.”

Yeah Clarkson, like your pension is any jeopardy!

Young Academic can today reveal that Unison is taking urgent legal advice over yesterday’s comments.

  2. Given that he earns his through the license fee, which by proxy makes him a public sector worker, those comments were not only deeply offensive but also incredibly stupid. Good reporting Charles.
