UK University Students Shine at the Forefront of New Business Enterprise

Young Academic can today reveal that a hand-picked selection of the UK’s finest university students will gather in London on Friday 8th June to compete in the grand final of Grad Factor TV’s Enterprising Talent. This is a national competition celebrating the very best up and coming student entrepreneurs.

The final is the culmination to series 1 of The Grad Factor (, the first digital TV programme made specifically for UK University students. The show focuses on graduate employment and student entrepreneurship, and over the last month has been travelling the country meeting budding business minds from UK universities. Each student was given the opportunity to present to Keith Chaplin-Mabbutt, founder and CEO of award-winning recruitment website who after careful deliberation selected his top five entrepreneurs to progress to the final.  

The London show will see the finalists pitch their business ideas to an impressive line up of panel judges chaired by Michael Hayman, founder of StartUp Britain and Chairman of Entrepreneurs for Coutts & Co. “The Grad Factor supports the crucial message that more young people need to go for it in business” says Hayman. “The competition has attracted superb entries and I am delighted to be chairing the final. Increasingly, more and more people are going to be their own boss and this competition provides a superb contribution to celebrating that can-do spirit”.

The top finalist as chosen by the panel will win a cash prize and banking support services from Natwest, plus prospective mentorship from the panel members. The Final takes place at Google Campus on Friday 8th June from 14.30 with audience tickets now available (for booking visit: The show will also feature live music from Moonrunners, winner of the recent ‘Battle of the Bands’ national competition.

In anticipation of the final, Episodes 1-5 of The Grad Factor can be viewed at The core focus of the show is to help University students become more employable and secure suitable work post degree whilst also encouraging, inspiring and supporting student entrepreneurship for those that would prefer to go it alone. Each episode includes interviews with industry specific professionals from Top 100 Graduate Employers as well as SME companies who each give invaluable advice and insight for entering the work arena.

Companies featured in series 1 include The Co-operative, Jaguar Land Rover, NHS, IBM and HSBC.
