Young Academic can reveal that the man found dead outside Chester Post Office yesterday, was father of two Kevin Edwards, 37, of Llanberis, Wales. Tributes are being paid in his hometown after he was found perished at the foot of a stairwell in Chester city yesterday morning.
Mr Edwards had been on a weekend away with friends when the tragic incident occurred and is the son of Gwynedd Councillor Trefor Edwards. He worked as a housing officer for social enterprise Cymdeithas Tai Eryri.
An official police spokesperson said this morning, at 8.49am, that it was unclear whether he fell down a stairwell or another person was involved and that his death was “unexplained”.
Cllr Edwards said last night that Chester police are “99.9%” sure the body is that of his son.
His sister Cheryl Roberts, 40, said of Mr Edwards; “Nothing was ever too much trouble for him, for any friend in need and no words can describe our loss. There is a gaping hole that only he can fill. I am so proud to be his sister and thanks Kev for all the wonderful memories.”
He was in charge of lettings in Anglesey, Dolgellau and Penygroes for Cymdeithas Tai Eryri and loved running.
Kevin was due home on Sunday and his Dad has told him to “Enjoy yourself and take care” before he departed Wales for the 2pm train to Chester on Saturday. He was staying at the Travelodge, just yards from where he was found deceased, and would normally ring home whilst away to let his family know he was okay.
Cllr Edwards received a call from one of his friends at 4.40pm on Sunday afternoon to say Kevin was missing. He will formally identify his son’s body in a Liverpool hospital today and a post mortem is being conducted this morning.
Cllr Edwards also said; “There is CCTV footage of him coming out of a club by the Travelodge. He turned left instead of right and ended up through an unsecured gate outside the post office. Behind the gate there is a drop. If he pushed the gate he hit his head on the concrete at the bottom, most probably. I want to know if his death was instantaneous or did somebody attack him?”
A Cheshire Police spokesperson went on to say : “At just after 9am this morning, Cheshire Police were called to St John Street in Chester following a report of a man found deceased near to the post office.
“The circumstances surrounding the death of the man are unexplained at this time. Police remain at the location where scene examination and further enquiries are underway.”
