Bestival 2012 Shaping Up To Be A Big One

As you guys will be well aware, the ulimate festival guide is the only resource you need when it comes to the best events of 2012. We were straight in there with our Bestival preview in the spring and now Young Academic Features Editor Bobby Gant has his say on what could be the highlight of the summer as the exciting line-up starts to take shape.

The announcement of the Sunday Headliner for Bestival 2012 has been signed, sealed and delivered. Yes, Mr Stevie Wonder will be headlining on the Sunday night, a legendary addition to an already impressive line-up that will ensure interest in Bestival will be very high this summer.

Key organiser and Radio 1 DJ, Rob da Bank was delighted to make the announcement last week, “What can I say? What a day! I see part of my job at Bestival as giving you acts you may never have seen or will get the chance to see again… so, I’m hoping you feel as happy as I do as we announce the legendary Stevie Wonder as Sunday night headliner! A winner of 25 Grammy Awards, the most ever for a solo artist.”

He added “this is a very rare chance to see a legend in action. See you there!”

Stevie Wonder is added to a line-up already full of musical heavyweights alongside some of the hottest fresh talent.  Other acts already on the roster include New Order, who are headlining the Saturday night, Friendly Fires, Sigur Ros, The XX, De La Soul, Justice, Hot Chip, Two Door Cinema, Nero and Gary Numan.

On top of that there are some of the best emerging talents of the last couple of years including the likes of Ben Howard, Warpaint, the Horrors, Alabama Shakes, Emeli Sande and Rizzle Kicks.

As more acts are promised to be announced in the coming weeks and a headliner for Friday yet to be confirmed, plus a fine list of DJs set to spin, Bestival is set to be among the top festivals this year.

With over 20 stages of live music from more than 300 bands soundtracking your escape from reality, Bestival has a reputation as a fans’ favourite festival, with a wealth of hidden treasures peppered across the site. From the old world southern American charms of the Swamp Shack and the magical aura of the Wishing Tree, to the mayhem of the Wall of Death and the rush of the Roller Disco, there is plenty on offer.
