Getting a bit down with the prospect of more miserable weather, coursework, exams and dissertations? Well never fear as Young Academic is yet again on hand to raise your spirits. As the post Christmas blues set in, we have unearthed a great deal from the kind folk at NUS that will enable you to make some great savings. Remember to keep your eyes peeled at Young Academic next week as we have some great student news and competitions on the way!

According to psychologist Cliff Arnall from the University of Cardiff’s Centre for Lifelong Learning, the 3rd Monday in January is the most depressing day of the Year, hence it has been named Blue Monday. NUS have found a great way to fight that down feeling as we fight our way through the worst months of 2011 with loads of free NUS Extra card – and as you know they can only mean great student-friendly savings.

If you are anything like us here at Young Academic then you have probably broken your New Year’s resolutions. In addition to that you will be back in seminars, and just received your biggest credit card bill of the year, well this promotion from our pals at NUS could be the perfect remedy.

On the 17th January, 500 NUS Extra cards worth £11 each will be given away for free. These will go to the first 500 students logging in and purchasing the card online at http://www.nus.org.uk/, giving their new owners immediate discounts with over 100 top brands. Happy Days!

As if this wasn’t good enough, all cards purchased on that day and the rest of that week up until 5pm on Friday 21st January will also receive a free upgrade -giving an additional 40,000 discounts available in 100 different countries. Why not get your end of year hols sorted, we’re pretty sure you will deserve it after what is sure to be an arduous exam period.

Aaron Porter, the main man at NUS had the following to say of this great scheme; “NUS Extra cards give you discounts and savings all year so we thought a January sale would be a great way to start the year on a positive note.”

Remember to keep coming back to Young Academic for all your student news, gossip and freebies as another academic year starts to reach it’s peak. Happy shopping!
