The academic year is drawing to a close and the celebrations are starting as students everywhere are planning their summers filled with parties, festivals and barbeques, but what to do with all the drinks cans?  Young Academic today brings you a great bit of student news in the form of a creative competition which could you win you some great prizes!

TV presenter and avid recycler Miquita Oliver has launched the competition named i luv my can encouraging everyone aged 16 upwards to get creative, turning ordinary cans into imaginative creations.  Open for entry today, the nationwide search is on for the most original and artistic inventions.

Britain is set for a scorcher this summer (fingers crossed) and students everywhere will be working up a thirst with yet another academic year coming to an end.  What better way to spend the summer than kicking up your heels in the garden or on a festival field enjoying the rays with a can or two?  This new competition is aimed at you lot!  Save your cans and get creative, you never know, you could be in with the chance of winning £1000 whilst helping the environment and a worthy charity!

A budding Picasso or not, this is your chance to shine.  It’s easy enough, drink, save and create!  Whether it’s a sculpture, work of art, fashion item or an entertaining stunt, if you’re the lucky winner, you could get your hands on the top prize of £1000 and a year’s supply of your favourite canned drink!

The competition is split into ten categories, including “Most Artistic Can” and “Best Can Furniture”, you really can get as imaginative as you like with this competition.  The winner of each of the ten categories will be awarded with a trophy and the best creations will be auctioned to raise money for the Art Fund, the UK’s leading charity that aims securing art for museums and art galleries.

Supporting the campaign, Miquita Oliver comments, “Everyone wants to do their bit for the environment and help make a difference.  This competition is a fun way of encouraging more people to recycle, take a fresh look at the packaging of their favourite drink and support a good cause.”

In the UK alone we get through 9.4 drinks can a year, 60% of which get sent to the recycling bin.  The goal of this competition is to raise awareness of the versatility of the can and increase recycling in a fun way.
