FORE Launches Innovative Design Competition for Students in Leeds

FORE Launches Innovative Design Competition for Students in Leeds
FORE Partnership, the pan-European real estate investment club for family offices and private investors, has launched an innovative design competition for photography, art and film students at Leeds Beckett University surrounding the refurbishment of its prime office complex in Leeds.

The competition offers the Leeds Beckett Students the opportunity to produce pieces of work which will be used to promote FORE’s Yorkshire House & Hub office in central Leeds. The entries will follow the theme of being “unmistakeably Yorkshire” and aim to create an honest, insightful portrayal of Leeds. The competition has been devised by Heavenly, a London-based international branding agency.

Participating students are being offered valuable client experience, with the winning entries given the opportunity to show their portfolio to a top London photographer, illustrator or film producer. The successful students will also have their work commercially used in all the marketing material for the launch of the Yorkshire House & Hub, a rare opportunity to receive commercial credit at an early stage of their careers.

Yorkshire House & Hub is a 90,000 sq ft office complex which FORE acquired in September 2014. It is located in the heart of Leeds city centre on Greek Street. FORE has created two types of space in the building, Yorkshire House and Yorkshire Hub, which are both designed for the creative industries – Yorkshire House catering for larger media and technology businesses, and Yorkshire Hub geared towards smaller businesses and start-ups. The location is a vibrant environment for creative companies, just a short walk from the main train station and in the heart of Leeds near to restaurants, bars and cafes.

FORE is undertaking a significant refurbishment of the building with sustainability and community central to its vision. FORE is using green construction practices, including solar panels and LED lighting, designed to exceed BREEAM’s ‘Excellent’ sustainability rating.  The work is expected to be completed in late 2015 and the letting agents are Knight Frank and DTZ.

As part of FORE’s focus on community engagement, FORE and Leeds Beckett University are looking to explore further ways to collaborate and hope this will be the first of many projects.

Basil Demeroutis, Managing Partner of FORE Partnership, commented:  “A key part of FORE’s philosophy is to bring sustainability to the mainstream – we like to think of it as ‘responsible real estate’ – and ensure that all of our developments go above and beyond in recognition of the role they play in the local community.

“Our engagement with Leeds Beckett University is part of our mission to work with local stakeholders in realising our investment strategy.  I am very excited to see what work the students will produce about Leeds and our building, and I am sure it will be just the type of creative environment that we seek to create.”

Deborah Green, Marketing Director at Leeds Beckett University agreed: “We are always pleased to work collaboratively with the private sector on innovative and forward thinking projects. Such initiatives help ensure our students get the most from their studies and gives them the best possible preparation for life after Leeds Beckett. ”

Jennifer Walker from Heavenly added: “With Yorkshire House & Hub we really wanted to focus on the property being redeveloped by Yorkshire people for Yorkshire People. With this in mind we felt it would be an excellent opportunity to partner with Leeds Beckett University on this competition and challenge students to capture the essence of being unmistakably Yorkshire.’’

The competition is open to any current student of Leeds Beckett University and the closing date for entries is Tuesday, 30 June. Submissions and/or questions regarding the competition should be directed to Jennifer Walker at Heavenly on [email protected]
