Students Encouraged to Kit Their Digs Out Before Their Loan Disappears

Students Encouraged to Kit Their Digs Out Before Their Loan Disappears
Here at Young Academic, we have been bringing new and existing students a series of guides to help them prepare for what is bound to be an arduous academic year. Today, we have some important information on the best ways to kit out your student house without out obliterating your student loan and leaving yourself with no beer money.

Don’t Be Afraid To Ask

First of all, be sure to check with all your family and friends to see if they have any unwanted furniture, equipment or accessories. You do not need to be afraid to ask as we all left home once upon a time and most people have all sorts of stuff lying around that they would rather get rid of. You could end up with some much needed cutlery, chests of draws or even TV’s. Someone even gave me their old N64 once, which provided us with hours of fun on Mario Kart and Goldeneye. Solid student gold! Forget your pride as this could save you a small fortune and you can always return these items when your studies are over.

Take Advantage Of The Internet

I know this sounds simple, but the amount of students who still head to the high street with their student loans and spend too much never ceased to amaze us here at Young Academic. Take the time to peruse the wonder that is the internet and you will not be disappointed. Not only can you find cheaper prices but you will more often than not get your items delivered to your door at a time that suits you. Don’t be scared of investing in high quality items either, as you can share the price with all of your housemates and you can always flog it at the end of your degree and get most of your money back. Many high street stores such as Matalan, Furniture UK and Tesco have great websites so go take a look!

Freecycle

Finally, if you are really up against it you can have a look at your local Freecycle site. This is where people get rid of things they can’t be bothered to take to the tip or destroy. The beauty of it is that it is all free and often it can be just what you are looking for. From sofas and tables, to old TVs and microwaves, you will most probably find the lot on this ingenious site and it obviously helps the environment too. It’s free to join and you could kit your student digs out in no time. Why not take a look at the great infographic below from Furniture UK and remember to share if you like it!

Woods The Difference 08.07.14

It really is in your interest to get your student house sorted right away, before your student loan has disappeared and you are chasing your tail. It is all too easy to go out all fresher’s week and then get bogged down by lectures and seminars and before you know it you have a bare house and no money! Take the above factors into consideration and get your items now and you will reap the benefits for the rest of the year and study/party until your heart’s content.
