At Young Academic HQ we understand that you have all been studying hard and might need a break from the usual educational and UK student news so today we can bring you news of a new festival created by those going – The First Day of Freedom.
This festival is all about freedom. The appropriately named The First Day of Freedom is set to change the dynamic between event promoters and their audiences forever. It marks the beginning of the summer and the beginning of life after exams and it looks like it is going to be the ultimate party to celebrate.
“The festival is about handing the reins over to the people who care; the people who are going to be enjoying it.”
The festival is planned for 15th – 17th July, directly after exams finish and is set to be three nights of messy parties and celebrations with a fresh line-up hand-picked by the students themselves.
Facilitated by Facebook, students have gathered to organise the festival and people seem genuinely excited by the concept of creating a social gathering from the online community. With numbers hitting 8,000, the festival is sure to be a hit amongst school leavers nationwide. A committee of 364 students has formed which is essential to organising the festival, helping to shape the event from the ground up, ensuring that their ideas really mean something. Sign up through the Facebook page at www.facebook.com/leaversfestivalhellyeah to get involved and have your say.
Tarin Heaton-Heather, partner and co-founder of the event, has said “The concept for the festival began in Newquay when we were running Leavers parties for thousands of people every summer, but this has evolved 100 times over since then and has taken shape in a way that we never could have imagined possible. We put a Facebook fan page up and started talking to people, and it has just grown from there. With no official announcements and the location still kept as secret people have signed up and are now waiting to see what the line-up is… at time of writing this there are 7,850 people on Facebook clamouring to know who’s playing. That’s an amazing and unexpected place to be for any festival, especially one that has never even run before!”
Every aspect of the festival has been curated and created by the people who are going so ultimately, the organisers are confident that they have a line-up guaranteed to be popular. After all, the festival is about handing the reins over to the people who care; the people who are going to be enjoying it.
The line-up so far is bursting with attitude with big names like Mystery Jets, Los Campesinos! Tinchy Strider and Professor Green along with many, many more. The line-up will be expanded by the huge amount of unsigned bands that will be playing across the weekend so a message to all bands that want to be part of the celebrations to get in touch. All hopefuls must send video links or youtube videos of the band playing to email@example.com
